Through community partnerships at multiple locations, Summer in the City offers free and subsidized Play Programs for elementary-age Detroiters. Campers and volunteers participate together in activities including arts and crafts, reading, sports and our Famous Friday Field Trips.

Middle-school “alumni” and those new to Summer in the City can apply to be Junior Volunteers, joining a JV Team and working with Coaches on a variety of service projects and experiential adventures.

Every summer culminates with the Backpacktacular, a carnival where campers get backpacks and “earn” books and school supplies.
